Kingdom Arena: Executing a Large-Scale Escalator System in 45 Days

In complex developments, time is often the most critical factor. At the Kingdom Arena project in Riyadh, the schedule was fixed around a major international boxing event, leaving no room for delay or compromise and requiring a fully operational escalator system to be in place within a strictly defined timeframe.

What followed was a highly coordinated vertical transportation program, executed within 45 days.

A System Built for High-Volume Transportation

The Kingdom Arena escalator system was designed to support high passenger volumes across a multi-level structure adjacent to the main arena. The scope included the installation of 21 heavy-duty escalators distributed across seven floors, each unit engineered to handle intense operational demand during peak event hours.

Under normal circumstances, projects of this magnitude require several months from manufacturing to commissioning. In this case, the entire process had to be executed in weeks.

From Manufacturing to Site Integration

The project began with an accelerated manufacturing phase, during which all 21 custom escalator units were produced within just 14 days. Dedicated task forces worked in parallel streams, supported by strict quality control protocols and built-in contingency planning to ensure speed without compromising international safety standards.

This approach allowed production to progress at scale while maintaining the precision and reliability expected from complex vertical transportation systems.

Global Logistics

With manufacturing completed, the focus shifted to logistics. To meet the timeline, traditional shipping methods were bypassed in favor of air freight. Three consecutive flights using large cargo aircrafts were chartered to transport all components directly to Saudi Arabia.

Customs clearance, ground handling, and site logistics were fully synchronized, enabling just-in-time delivery and eliminating unnecessary storage or downtime.

24/7 Installation and Commissioning

On-site execution was carried out around the clock. Installation teams operated 24/7 across all seven floors, using parallel workstreams to compress the schedule and maximize efficiency. Tasks that would typically be completed sequentially were executed simultaneously, significantly reducing overall project duration.

Throughout installation and commissioning, structured quality assurance and safety protocols were embedded into every stage. The result was zero safety incidents and a seamless handover ahead of the event.

The Result: A New Industry Benchmark

On the night of the grand event, thousands of spectators moved smoothly through the venue without disruption. All 21 escalators were fully operational, commissioned on schedule, and performing as designed under peak loads.

Beyond the success of the event, the project set a new global benchmark for rapid escalator deployment, demonstrating what is possible when engineering expertise, disciplined execution, and strategic coordination come together.

A Model for Time-Critical Projects

The Kingdom Arena project stands as a clear example of how complex vertical transportation systems can be delivered under extreme time pressure without sacrificing quality or safety. Through close collaboration with key partners, including the General Entertainment Authority and Sela, the project delivered results that matched the ambition of the development itself.

Because even the most demanding schedules can be achieved with the right expertise and execution model.
